Marie Burns Obituary

Millie “Marie” Burns, 88, of Francisco, passed away Monday, September 6, 2021 at Good Samaritan Home in Oakland City. She was born in Francisco on August 10, 1933 to the late, Roy McDevitt and Millie (Beasley) McDevitt. For many years Marie traded in antiques. She was part owner of Yesterday’s Memories on the square in Princeton and was also involved in several antique shops around the area. She was a member of the UHL Pottery Society around Jasper and served on the Board of Directors at the Princeton Senior Center. She was a Girl Scouts leader for 2 generations and enjoyed volunteering her time in many ways to help people in the community. She was a talented woman, making beautiful floral arrangements or whipping up a lovely wedding cake.

Marie is survived by her children, Cary Burns (Terry), Denise Burns (Ron Thorbecke), Alan Burns (Susan), and Marsha “Marci” Burns-McDevitt (Robert Luttrull); 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren with one on the way; sisters, Mary Kathern Stiles, Sue Broadus, Janice Stoner (Marvin), and Nancy McDevitt; and sisters-in-law, Francis Burns, Tody Hartwell, and Pearl Louise Burns. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 42 years, Charles Burns in 1994; sisters, Agnes Burgin and Frieda Pauley; grandson, Joey Deweese; daughter-in-law, Cheryl (Lamar) Burns; and son-in-law, Tim W. Wilder.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, September 10, 2021 at Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton. Interment will follow at Francisco Cemetery in Francisco. A visitation will be held Thursday, September 9, 2021 from 4 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. The funeral service will be livestreamed online just before the service hour starts at www.facebook.com/colvinfuneralhomes.
