Marilyn Williams Obituary

Marilyn Jean (Sundstrom) Williams, 94, passed away peacefully March 18, 2024 at RiverOaks Health Campus in Princeton, Indiana.

She was born December 15, 1929 in Western Springs, Illinois to John “Ed” and Edith (Carlson) Sundstrom, who preceded her in death.

Marilyn grew up an only child in Hinsdale, Illinois but shared her childhood with lifelong best friend and surviving cousin Suzanne Linn (Holland, MI). In her childhood Marilyn learned and honed her skills for decorating and honoring cherished traditions, especially those of her Swedish father and ancestors. In Hinsdale, she met Jim Williams, whom she married on May 19, 1952. Marilyn and Jim shared 67 wonderful and eventful years together before his passing in 2019. Her family later moved to Terre Haute, Indiana and eventually to Princeton in 1970, where she lived the remainder of her life. Marilyn served her family and the Princeton community throughout her lifetime. She was a leader of the Princeton welcome wagon, longtime member of Lady Elks, Tri-Kappa, and PEO. Marilyn particularly enjoyed her time playing Bridge and connecting with her friends. Marilyn and Jim owned and operated the Broadway House Floral and Gift Shop in Princeton. Marilyn attended and spent numerous time volunteering at Hillside United Methodist Church. After retirement Marilyn and Jim were home builders; building numerous homes in the northern Gibson County area. She loved decorating homes and real estate. Marilyn kept active in many other local organizations, traveling, and attending grandchildren’s activities.

Also surviving are her children, Susan Williams of Nashville, TN and Mark (Pam) Williams of Patoka, IN; grandchildren, Chad (Renee) Pankake of Nashville, TN, David (Eileen) Pankake of Nashville, TN, Jessica (Waylon) Schenk of Wadesville, IN, and Adam (Lauren) Williams of Princeton, IN; 13 great-grandchildren; and her dear friends of her Bridge Club.

Marilyn’s family is very grateful for the caring and compassionate attention that she received from the nurses and staff at RiverOaks Health Campus and to the dedicated staff of AseraCare Hospice.
