Martha C. Reeves of Princeton passed away on 7/21/25 at the Linda E. White Hospice House in Evansville after a long illness. She was born April 20, 1947 in Evansville to Joseph and Rose (Fuhs) Schemel.
Martha graduated from Rex Mundi High School in Evansville, and spent many years as a homemaker, before working 19 years at Walmart as a CSM and in sporting goods, which is where many will remember her from. She was a member of Eagles Auxiliary #361 since 1995, and enjoyed helping with the Golden Heritage Festival quilt display for many years.
Despite her petite frame, Martha loved eating good food, with fried chicken and seafood being a couple of her favorites. She also had a notorious “sweet tooth” for candy, cookies, and pastries. Martha loved to cook and will be remembered for her amazing spaghetti sauce and pork roast, among other dishes. In recent years, she enjoyed watching westerns as well as Cardinals baseball, Colts football, IU basketball and following her grandson’s baseball games via the “Game Changer” app on her cell phone. Above all else, she was an amazing mom and grandmother who loved and sacrificed for her family, and she will be deeply missed.
Martha is survived by her son, Michael (Ashlee) Reeves of Princeton, daughter Stephanie (Bryan) Caldemeyer of St. Philip; grandsons Brayden and Jacob Caldemeyer; brother, Ed (Jenny) Schemel of Evansville; special friend Kenny Umpleby; and her dog, Addie.
She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter, Lisa; son, Steven Reeves; brother Arthur R. Schemel, and nephew, Patrick Schemel.
Visitation is 4:00 – 7:00 PM on Wednesday 7/23 at Colvin Funeral home, with funeral service to take place on Thursday 7/24 at 10:00 AM at St Joseph Catholic Church in Princeton. Interment will follow at St Joseph Cemetery in Evansville.
The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Linda E. White Hospice House for the care and comfort provided to Martha during her final days. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to the Gibson County Animal Shelter.
