Mary Vinson Obituary

Mary Ellen (Phillips) Vinson, 85, of rural Hazleton, passed away Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at Amber Manor Care Center in Petersburg, Indiana. She was born August 10, 1935 in Clay Township, Pike County, Indiana to the late Paul and June (Vore) Phillips. Ellen graduated from Hazleton High School in 1953.  She married John Elden Vinson, her husband of 64 years, on August 8, 1953 at the former Salem Methodist Church.  Ellen and John lived in West Lafayette, Indiana and Hamilton, Ohio until returning to the Hazleton area in 1959 to become involved in farming with Vinson & Phillips Farms.  Ellen was active in the Tri Kappa, Antiquarian, and Tourists organizations, and was involved in many philanthropic activities.  She was a member of Hazleton United Methodist Church.

Ellen is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Cliff and Tracy (Higdon) Vinson of rural Hazleton and Phillip and Jane (Goedde) Vinson of Fairfield, OH; grandchildren, Gretchen Chenault, Brittney Fryrear (Brad), Jared Vinson (Brianna), Heather Burton (Tyler), Sara Foreman (Casey), Gregory Vinson (Danielle), Eric Vinson (Maggie) and Scott Vinson (Isabella); great grandchildren, Brenton, Brayden and Brantley Fryrear, Avery, Finnick and Elden Vinson, and Layla and Khiyah Burton.  Ellen was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sisters, Judy Wier and Wilma Longabaugh.

A visitation will be held from 10 AM until service hour, 12:30 PM CDT Saturday, November 14, 2020 at Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton, IN.  A funeral service will be held at 12:30 PM CDT Saturday at the funeral home officiated by Pastor Sam Polito and Eulogy provided by John B. Davidson.  Burial will follow at Davidson Cemetery near Giro.  Due to COVID-19 restrictions, funeral home guests are required to wear facial coverings, maintain social distance, and seating will be limited.

Memorial contributions may be made to Davidson Cemetery, c/o Janie Davidson, 9477 W CR 350 N, Hazleton, IN 47640 and to Pike Animal Welfare Shelter located at 4224 N Meridian Rd, Petersburg, IN 47567.
