Mary Lou Watkins Obituary

Mary Lou (Hunt) Watkins, 99, 3 weeks shy of 100 years old, passed away Friday, May 9, 2025 at RiverOaks Health Care in Princeton. She was born May 30, 1925 in Princeton to the late Elmer Scott Hunt and Nila (Richardson) Hunt. She was a member of the Wheeling United Methodist Church where she was very active and lived in the Wheeling area her whole life. Mary Lou was a 1943 graduate of Mt. Olympus where she was the oldest living graduating class. She loved word searches and quilting but Mary Lou’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Jane Vickers (Rod) of Princeton; son-in-law, Mike McConnell of Princeton; grandchildren, Sara and Bryce Abbey, Jenny and Zach Kolb, and Logan Vickers; great-grandchildren, Lane and Jase Kolb and Hudson and Harrison Abbey; many beloved nieces and nephews; and her extended Hunt family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 74 years, James “Jimmie” Watkins; daughter, Jan McConnell; grandson, Sam McConnell; siblings, Elma Elliott, Jess Hunt, Scotty Hunt, and Nora Mae Hunt; 2 sisters-in-law, and 1 brother-in-law. 

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 13, 2025 at Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton with Pastor Mike Ferguson officiating. Burial will follow at Atkinson Chapel Cemetery in Oatsville. Visiting hours will be held from 3 until 7:00 PM Monday, May 12th at the funeral home.
