Maurice “Morris” Hurt, 97, of Princeton, passed away Monday, October 18, 2021 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh. He was born February 21, 1924 in Marysville, IN to Renza and Fannie (Wingate) Hurt. Morris was a member of Broadway Christian Church in Princeton and a member of the former VFW Post #1147 in Princeton. He worked a time at Kings Mine in Princeton and retired from Continental Steel in Kokomo, IN after nearly 30 years. He was a WWII Veteran and a Staff Sergeant in the 90th Inf. Div. He was wounded in Germany receiving the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and other medals for his service and bravery.
Morris is survived by his 4 daughters, Janice Hazel of Princeton, Jerri Daffron of Nebo, KY, Sheila Jones of Princeton and Jenny Parker of Kokomo; grandchildren, Doug Hazel of Newburgh, Billy Daffron of Owensboro, KY, Tina Alexander and Tracey Alexander, both of Henderson, KY, Alanna (Driver) Tinsley of Princeton, Robert Fuller of Florida and Jake Pebley of Kokomo; 14 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Dennis Hurt; grandson, Kevin Hazel; brothers, Carl and Jim Hurt; sisters, Arlie Collins, Julia Ledbetter, Bullah Hurt; and special friend, Evelyne “Babe” McClure.
A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, October 24, 2021 at Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton. Burial will follow at Francisco Community Cemetery in Francisco. Military Rites will be provided by the Retired Military Veterans. Visitation will be on Sunday at the funeral home from noon until the hour of service.
