Nancy “Jayne” (Hunter) Deckard, 84, of Parrish, FL passed away May 16, 2026 with family by her side.
Jayne was born September 29, 1941, in Washington, IN to Adrian and Elaine Hunter. Due to their early deaths, Jayne was raised by her grandparents (Edgar and Elizabeth Hunter) early in life, and then her uncle and aunt (Walter and Ella Mae Hunter). She graduated from St. Rose Academy in Vincennes, IN.
Jayne married Walter, the love of her life, on September 28, 1963. After several years of moving around for Walter’s job, they settled in Princeton, IN in 1971 to raise their family.
Jayne was devoted to her children and involved in their many activities. Whether coach, troop leader, chauffeur, organizer or biggest supporter, she could always be found at practices, games, and gymnastic meets and wrestling tournaments. Her family fondly remembers the living room filled with thousands of boxes of Girl Scout cookies or hundreds of boxes of donuts with Jayne and the family sorting them out.
Jayne worked for the North Gibson School Corporation and later served as Deputy Clerk Treasurer, and Clerk Treasurer for the city of Princeton.
A woman of strong faith and community, Jayne was active in the Daughter’s of Isabella, serving as the state Regent for many years, the Knights of Columbus auxiliary, an Associate of the Sisters of St. Francis, Oldham, IN, and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and school.
Jayne loved living her retirement years in her FL paradise most of the year and at Pride’s Creek during the summer, where she enjoyed being surrounded by her IN family and friends. Whether hosting or attending gatherings, sharing stories, playing cards, or simply enjoying time together, she treasured every opportunity to connect with those she loved.
Jayne is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years, Walter “Walt” Deckard; her daughters, Kathy Burton, Michelle Deckard (Bruce Bohlander), Sherry McDonald (Darrell); grandchildren, Brian Howell, Evan Howell, Olivia Johnson Bohlander, Megan Bonty (Austin) and Mathew McDonald (Avi); and great-grandchildren Ellie, Maggie and Callum; and her brother Larry Hunter.
She was preceded in death by her son, Doug Deckard, grandson Tyler Bohlander, her sister Sue Jones, and her brother Terry Hunter.
Jayne will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her generous spirit, her strong faith, and her willingness to help others. She leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and countless cherished memories with all who knew her.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Church at 10:30 a.m. on July 11, 2026. Visitation will be at 9:30 a.m. prior to the mass.
