Nathaniel Mattox, 79, of Princeton passed away Monday, January 5, 2026 at his home in Princeton. He was born in Reidsville, GA, February 28, 1946.
Nathaniel had lived in Princeton most of his life. He was a disabled veteran serving in the U.S. Marines during Vietnam War. He attended the Vincennes First Church of God. Nathaniel enjoyed fishing, and vacationing with his family. He enjoyed carpenter work, cutting wood, and building things. He was a mechanic and enjoyed working on cars. He also enjoyed watching old western shows and movies, music, dancing, singing, and going for walks. Nathaniel was always concerned about his neighbors checking on them making sure that they were doing fine.
Nathaniel is survived by his wife, Cynthia Mattox; son, Tyson Mattox of Vincennes; daughters, Bethany Mattox of Princeton, and Tanisha Mattox of Vincennes; grandchildren, Trenton Nelson, Nala Magwood and Aiden Mattox; siblings, Barbara Thomas, Albert Byrd, Sharon Taylor, Edlene Byrd-White, Michael Byrd, Rebecca Brown, Peggy Clark, Willie Joe Brannen, Calvin Smith, and Lonnie Byrd.
Nathaniel was preceded in death by his biological parents, Dan Brannen and Ruby Byrd, his adoptive parents, Herschel and Lucille Mattox, and some siblings.
A visitation will be held at the Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton on Wednesday, January 28, 2026 from 10 am to 12 pm, followed by military honors provided by the Retired Military Veterans.
