Robert “Bob” L. Montgomery, 98, of Princeton, passed away Sunday, June 27, 2021 at River Oaks Health Campus in Princeton. He was born December 19, 1922 to the late Leroy Montgomery and Edith (Knight) Montgomery in Gibson County, Indiana and spent most of his life in the area. He proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II on the USS San Francisco; a heavy cruiser, which was in nearly every major Naval operation in the South Pacific. Bob married Bettye (Morrison) Montgomery in 1947 and they’ve been blessed with 73 years together. Bob owned and operated Bob’s Sunoco Service Station and Car Wash on East Broadway for 26 years. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1147 and past member of the Erie Canal Beagle Club. He enjoyed raising registered beagles. He used them for hunting too, which was one of his favorite past times, along with fishing. Bob was dearly loved by his family and will be missed deeply.
Bob is survived by his wife, Bettye Montgomery of Princeton; son, Michael Lee Montgomery (Fern) of Owensville; grandchildren, Jason Montgomery (Samara) and Laura Hays (Jude); one great-grandchild; four step-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Barbara Ford (John); and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Kenneth Montgomery; and sisters, Margaret Floyd, Dorothy Allerellie, and Jean Osborne.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at Columbia White Church Cemetery in Princeton with Reverend Vanlal Hruaia officiating. Military Honors by Retired Military Veterans.
