Robert J. Smith III, 77, of Princeton, passed away on Wednesday, December 17, 2025 at his home with his wife and family by his side. Bob was born July 30, 1948 in Sullivan, Indiana to Betty and Robert Smith. He graduated from Riverside Military Academy and Arkansas State University where he played football for 8 years. Bob owned and operated HMC Gears in Princeton Indiana for over 50 years. He was a wonderful Dad and Bopa to his family. Bob also considered all the team members of HMC as his HMC family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jeff Smith; and sister, Cindy Smith.
Bob is survived by his wife of 35 years, Cynthia Smith of Princeton; children, Rebecca (Danny) Smith and Henry (Meri) Smith; step-sons, Ryan (Amanda) Parke and Justin (Pov) Parke; grandchildren, Danny Michael, Sydney, Izzabella, RJ, JT, JL, Sophi, Srey-Yuu, and Sakana; siblings, Karen Armstrong, Eric (Debbie) Smith, Tim Smith, and Jack Smith; sister-in-law, LeAnn Smith; dogs, Maggie and Bailey; and best friend, Steve Auberry.
A memorial visitation will be held 3 PM until 7 PM Saturday, December 20, 2025 at Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton. The family will have an area for you to share your favorite memory, story, or your favorite thing about him. A burial at a later date will take place at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Ft. Branch, IN.
The family extends a special thanks to Deaconess In Home Hospice Care and to Bob’s full-time caregivers, Justin and Pov Parke. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Gibson County Animal Services. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
