Ronald Dunning Obituary

Ronald L. Dunning, 86, of Princeton, passed away Tuesday, October 14, 2025 at the Waters of Princeton.  He was born October 15, 1938 in Knox County, to Ralph and Opal I (Harvey) Dunning.

Ron was an Oil Driller for several years and he was the owner and operator of Princeton Drilling Co.  He had been an Oil Field Pumper for 50 years. He had served as a Police Officer for the City of Princeton and also served as the Police Chief.  Ron later worked as an Electrician for Amax Coal Co. in Keensburg, IL.  He enjoyed working and providing for his family.  Ron attended the New Life Church of the Nazarene and was a member of Prince Lodge #231 Masonic Lodge.

Ron is survived by his wife of 68 years, Loretta Dunning, to whom he was on married April 21, 1957; son, Ronald E. Dunning of Princeton; sister, Betty Ayers of Princeton; grandson, Josh Dunning (Jody) of McCutchanville; great-grandchildren, Mason Lee and Adalyn Dunning.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Opal; brothers, Ralph, John, and Ed Dunning; and sister, Margaret Mellinger.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, October 19, 2025 at the Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton, with Pastor Donnie Truelock officiating.  Burial will follow in the White Church Cemetery in Princeton. Visitation will be from 1 until 3 pm on Sunday at the funeral home. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may made to the New Life Church of the Nazarene, 712 N. Embree St., Princeton, IN. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
