Ruth M. Harris, 96, passed away Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville. She was born August 3, 1924 in Monroe City. She had resided in Oakland City before moving to Newburgh 5 years ago. In the 1940s, she had worked building the LST war ships in Evansville and later worked at Potter & Brumfield in Princeton for many years. She was a member of the Oakland City First General Baptist Church where she sang in the church choir for many years.
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Georgia Wilkinson (Jack) of Newburgh; son, Larry Harris (Cynthia) of Oakland City; grandchildren, Jack Wilkinson, Nicki Caniff (Colt), Greg Wilkinson (Natalie), Andrea Butcher (Robert) and Haley Broadway (Jon); great grandchildren, Chloe Bartley, Triston Wilkinson, Paxon Bartley, Chase Wilkinson, Mayson Moore, Parker Conder, Harper & Hudson Holt, Sophie & Alex Butcher; and sisters-in-law, Ruth Aigner and Judy Parke.
She was preceded in death by her father, Rev. Alonzo Yates; mother, Bethel McGary Yates Frost; husband, George Harris in 2012; brothers, Alonzo Yates, Charles Yates and Jack Frost; and sisters Mary Georges and Martha Silke.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at Corn-Colvin Funeral Home in Oakland City with Dr. Douglas Low officiating. Burial will follow at Montgomery Cemetery in Oakland City. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the hour of service on Saturday at the funeral home.
