Sally Hart Obituary

Sally Jane (Lyman) Hart, 90, of Princeton, passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at RiverOaks Health Campus in Princeton. She was born December 22, 1931 in Indianapolis to Damien and Marie (Huber) Lyman. She met her husband, Lt. C. John Robert “Bob” Hart while they were both attending Butler University. They earned their B.S. degrees in 1953 and married the following year in the chapel on the Butler campus. Sal later earned her M.A. at the University of Evansville and began substitute teaching at the North and South School Corporations.

She had served as the President of the Little League Mothers and the Girls Softball League where she also coached for 8 years. She was a 4-H leader and Cub Scout Den Master. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir, taught adult Sunday School, led Bible study and was President of the United Methodist Women. She later joined the First Presbyterian Church and became an Elder, served on the Worship Committee and the Session and also taught adult Sunday School. Sal was a member and past President of the Lady Elks, founding member and past president of the Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary, member and past President of the Coterie Book Club, member of the Green Thumb Garden Club, Psi Iota Xi Society and the Red Hat Society Gibson Girls Chapter.

After retirement, Sal and Bob traveled extensively going to Civil War battle sites, attending football games coached by their son and taking bus tours.

Sal is survived by her children, Stephen Hart (Trish) of Bardstown, KY and Nancy Bennett (Cooksey) of Henderson, KY; grandchildren, Jessica Lynne Hart, Robert Joseph Hart (Jessica) and Josh Bennett (Amy); 6 great grandchildren; brothers, David J. Lyman of Bloomington and William H. Lyman (Mary) of Sheridan; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Bob in 2014.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton with Jenny White officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Maple Hill Cemetery in Princeton. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the hour of service on Saturday at the funeral home.
