Shane Jones Obituary

Shane Darwin Jones, 43, of Hazleton, Indiana died on June 8, 2020. He was born December 9, 1976 in Knox County to Leonard Jones, Jr. and Shirley Adkins Jones. He grew up in Hazleton, played baseball, participated in Gibson County 4H for 10 years, was an active Boy Scout, played trombone in Middle School, ran Cross Country and Track, and sang in the choir. Shane graduated in 1995 from Princeton Community High School and then earned his Eagle Scout on July 22, 1995. He then attended USI in Evansville, Indiana. During his college years, Shane worked at the Philmont Scout Ranch and interned at Walt Disney World one summer.

Shane Jones worked hard to the end. He worked at the Princeton Ponderosa Steakhouse while in High School and then later on in life as the General Manager. While at USI he worked at Casino Aztar in shipping and receiving, then promoted to Inventory Specialist. It was during this time he met his wife, Rachel while playing Dungeons and Dragons with mutual friends. Shane and Rachel married on June 22, 2002 at Hazleton United Methodist Church. In 2007 Shane started his own pressure washing business called D & D Pressure Washing. He cleaned restaurant kitchen exhaust systems, did concrete cleaning and house washing. Later on, in 2016 he added a carpet cleaning van to the business and changed its name to White River Clean. In 2017, the town was looking for someone to take over the Hazleton Water Department. Shane figured since he already knew a lot about water with his business and he wanted to help the community he grew up in that he’d give it a shot.

When the kids were old enough to run Cross Country, Shane took the opportunity to volunteer and share his passion of running. He later took over and coached the Princeton Community Middle School Team. He would donate, help or volunteer in Hazleton or Princeton whenever he could.

He was proceeded in death by his maternal grandparents Merle Adkins and Shirley Sullivan Adkins; parental grandparents Leonard Jones, Sr. and Mary Garwood Jones; several uncles and aunts; and his nephew Daelan Jones.

Shane is survived by his wife, Rachel Blahovec Jones; children Brandon Jones (Gabby Wilson), Logan Jones, and Emily-anne Jones; grand-daughter Viola Jones; parents Leonard Jones, Jr. and Shirley Adkins Jones; siblings Chastity Jones Braswell (Troy Braswell) and Daniel “Dino” Jones; nieces and nephews Kendra Braswell, Ted Braswell, Amree Jones, and Rylan Jones.

Funeral services will be held at the graveside at Hazleton Cemetery on Friday, June 19th at 10 am. Dinner will follow service at Hazleton Community Center – all are welcomed.
