Sharon M. Richeson

Sharon M. Richeson, 99, of Patoka passed away Friday, July 17, 2026, at her daughter’s home in Hazleton. She was born October 3, 1926 in Clinton, IN to George Bryan and Bereniece (Cook) Richardson.  Sharon was the oldest daughter and cousin of her family, but they all preceded her in death.  She retired from Mt. Carmel High School after teaching for 30 years.  Sharon lived in Patoka and the Princeton area since 1955.  She was a member of Patoka Global Methodist Church and D.A.R. for over 50 years, where she served as past Regent. Sharon was a member of, Tri-Kappa Sorority, Cherry Grove Home Economics Club, and the Garden Club, where she was a Master Gardener.  She was an avid golfer who was a former member of the Princeton Country Club and the Ladies Golf Club.  Sharon was a sports enthusiast; her favorite sport to watch was football, even though her husband Bill coached basketball at Princeton High School and led the Tigers to their first state final appearance in single class basketball.  She was an avid reader and skilled euchre player. Sharon taught her children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren to play and was always the favorite partner.  She had also been the Food Preservation Superintendent at the Gibson County Fair for many years.

Sharon is survived by her children, Kyle Ellis of Hazleton, Kirbe Richeson of Hazleton, and Susan Franklin (Charles) of Hazleton; grandchildren, Bryan Ellis (Rebecca), Andrea DeVoy (Richard), Charles “Chase” Franklin II, Chance Franklin, Chad Franklin (Nicole), and Megan Gatlin; great-grandchildren, Jenna, Brylee, and Walker Ellis, Jeremiah Kelley and Kyle DeVoy, Colin, Spencer, Emma, Jack, Izzy, Maddy and Damien Franklin; and many nieces and nephews.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter William “Bill” Richeson in 2014; and sister, Marka Jo Presslor.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 22, 2026 at Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton with Pastor Ricky Simpson officiating.  Burial will follow at Columbia White Church Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 12 until 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
