Sherrie "Teresa" Catt Obituary

Sherrie “Teresa” Catt, 68, of Oakland City, passed away at Deaconess Gateway on June 25, 2026, with family at her side.

She is survived by her daughters, Jennifer (Bryan) Coleman, and Cassie (Ryan) Howe; grandchildren, Ryleigh Miller, and Brian, Bradly, and Brynleigh Howe; her sister, Sonja Hinton; nephew, Morgan (Melanie) Hinton; as well as extended and bonus family members; and beloved dog, Dollar.

She was born August 31, 1957 to Cerena “Frances” and James Hinton, the youngest of 5 surviving children. She attended and graduated from Wood Memorial High School and shortly after married Dean Miller, of Patoka, Indiana. Together they had 2 daughters prior to Dean’s passing in 1984.

After the loss of her husband, she attended and graduated from Oakland City College with a Bachelors Degree in Business Management, which she used to open and operate Mother Goose Land Day Care for many years.

Teresa loved caring for kids. This was not only evident in her chosen profession, but also in her volunteer work. She frequently took care of the nursery during services at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Oakland City, and she also was the Youth Group Director for several years. Additionally, she was a Girl Scout leader when her daughters were young.

Teresa is preceded in death by both of her parents; her first husband, Dean; and sister, Anita Hinton.

While she will be missed by many, the family is respecting her wishes in not having a public service or visitation, but will have a private graveside at Montgomery Cemetery.
