Sonja Koberstein Obituary

Sonja Kay Koberstein, 81, of  Princeton, passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2023 at home. She was born June 4, 1941 in Princeton to the late James Arthur and Mary Violet (Cox) Thacker. She was a lifetime resident of Princeton and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She was well known and respected in the nursing community having retired as the Director of Nursing in ICU and 4W Step Down at Ascension St. Vincent, formerly St. Mary’s in Evansville. Previously, she had also been the Director of ICU and Neurosciences at Welborn Baptist Hospital. She was a beloved wife, the best mom, everyone’s rock, the center of the family, and the most kind person anyone could meet. She would give anything to help someone in need, taught her family the value of hard work and being a strong, independent person. She loved and forgave others with her entire heart. Sonja Kay will be greatly missed but her legacy lives on.

She is survived by her husband, Marion Koberstein of Princeton; daughters, Kim Price Smith and Missy Price Selby, both of Princeton; sons, Larry Price (Jackie), Rick Price, and Garvin Price, all of Princeton; stepdaughters, Susie Moss of Lynnville and Janie Wesfall (Dan) of Bedford; sister, Connie Maxey (Joe) of Patoka; grandchildren, Christian Price (Lori), Sherry Macharia, Serena Smith, David Price (Amy), Jaleigh Cates, Brena Sorgius (J.D.), Ashley Parker (Danny), Courtney Kuester (Craig), Thadeus Smith (Bryna), David Smith (Stephanie), Jennifer Meyers, Whitney Ziebell (Jon), and Makaylin Selby; step-grandchildren, Michael, Brittney, Rusty, Jacob, Malachi, Kay Ann, Timmy, and Emily; several great grandchildren; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Edith, JoAnn, Norma, Emery, Loretta, Dorothy, and Marlene; and several nieces and nephews.

Sonja Kay was preceded in death by her parents and grandson, Nicholas Price.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Princeton with Father Gary Kaiser and Father Bernie Etienne celebrants. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Princeton. Visitation will be from 3 until 8 pm on Friday, January 20th at Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton. The Southern Indiana Nursing Honor Guard will perform a Ceremony of Honor at 3 pm on Friday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be donated to Princeton Dollars for Scholars, Nursing Scholarship in memory of Sonja Kay Koberstein, at 1101 N. Main St., Princeton, IN 47670. Envelopes will also be available at the funeral home and church.
