Terry Nolcox Obituary

Terry Lynn Nolcox, 72, of Princeton, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2024 at RiverOaks Health Campus in Princeton, IN. She was born April 2,1951 in Lawrenceville, IL to the late Norman D. Houghtaling and Ina R. (LaMar) Houghtaling. She graduated from Princeton Community High School in 1969 and Oakland City College with a degree in mathematics in 1973. Terry worked for Norfolk Southern as an operator for 10 years. She went on to serve as the librarian for Brumfield Elementary School for 13 years. During that time, she enjoyed being the voice of the Princeton Community Tiger track and field teams. Terry served on the Board of Directors for Princeton Little League at Jack Bishop Field for three years. She also served as the player agent for a year.

Terry was passionate about genealogy, which was sparked by a project in her high school biology class. She was an active member of the Gibson County Historical Society and served as the Gibson County Historian for five years. Due to her love of genealogy and reading, she served on the Princeton Library Board of Trustees for two terms. Terry enjoyed spending her time researching her and her husband's family members, taking time on vacations to visit courthouses, cemeteries, libraries and various other historical landmarks associated with our Nation’s history. Terry attended the Methodist Church in Hazleton while she was young, the Presbyterian Church in Princeton and Wayman Chapel AME Church located in Lyles Station, Indiana with her husband. She had a strong personal faith in God that was important to her. Terry's family will miss her dearly and she was deeply loved by everyone who knew her.

Terry is survived by her husband, Travis Nolcox of Princeton; son, Lyle Nolcox of Hazleton; stepdaughter, Shelley Lynn Taylor (Juan) of Columbus, OH; step-grandchild, Sean Manns; siblings, Nancy Backes (Mike), Arletta Robinson, Carol Taylor (David), Patsy Ricketts and Sandra Griesemer (David) with a host of nieces and nephews.

Terry was preceded in death by her parents; brother, William Tom Houghtaling; and nieces, Stephanie Whittmer and Michelle Goebel.
