Terry John Theys, 70, of Princeton, passed away on Friday February 27, 2026 at his home. He died in dignity, was cared for, and deeply loved. Terry was born October 9, 1955 in Johnstown, PA to John and Reba (Gramling) Theys. Terry retired from Wabash Mine-Amax Coal in Keensburg where he was a Professional Mining Engineer. With a mining career spanning over 47 years Terry wore many hats. He graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a Mining Engineering degree, he worked for Pennsylvania Mines Corporation from 1974 to 1991, holding positions as an Equipment Operator, Section Foreman, Construction Foreman, Industrial Engineer, Ventilation Engineer, Chief Resident Engineer, and Project Engineer. Relocating to the Midwest in 1991 he worked for Amax Wabash Mine and its corporate successors as Manager of the Engineering, General Manager, Senior Project Manager and Director of Safety Engineering and Risk Management. Terry semi-retired in 2014 to do consulting work until his retirement in 2021.
Terry enjoyed fishing, sprint car racing, running, walking, and was an avid volunteer for P.C.H.S. sports. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where he served on the church’s finance counsel, was a Eucharistic Minister, and volunteered for maintenance of the St. Joseph Cemetery.
Terry is survived by his wife, Kathy; sons, Jeremy Theys (Angela) of Kansas City, MO, Jon Theys (Lainie) of Colorado Springs, CO, and Adam Theys of Jefferson, PA; siblings, Robert Theys, Linda McCormick, Darlene Lamason, Val Thomas, and Corey Theys (Tina); grandchildren, Jillian, Allison, Kieran, Maxwell, Noah and Kyler; several nieces and nephews; special friend, Bill Niederhaus and his fishing buddy, Larry Miller.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his lifelong friend Bob McCormick.
A Funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, March 14, 2026 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Princeton with Fr. Gary Kaiser as Celebrant. Visitation will be held from 4 until 8 p.m. on Friday, March 13, 2026 with a Rosary prayed led by members of the Knights of Columbus at 3:30 p.m. at the Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton. There will be a visitation from 9 a.m. until the service time on Saturday at the church. Interment will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the P.C.H.S. Athletic Department to support the sports of wrestling, track, and cross country. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
