Thomas Wayne “Tommy” Johnson, 62 of rural Princeton, passed away Thursday, February 1, 2024 at his home. He was born September 30, 1961 in Princeton to Wayne Thomas and Alice (Lyles) Johnson.
Tommy recently retired from the Indiana State Highway Department, where he had been a supervisor. He had lived in the Princeton area all of his life and was a member of the New Life Church of the Nazarene. He was a 1980 graduate of Princeton Community High School and played on the basketball team. He like riding horses and spending time with his family.
Tommy is survived by his mother, Alice (Lyles) Johnson (George Jacob) of Hampton VA; children, Gene Thomas Young (Amber) of Patoka, Ryan Portee of Princeton, Terrell Johnson of Houston, TX, Sherrell Johnson of Jeffersonville, Alice Johnson of Oakland City, Christine Johnson (James) of Owensville, Victoria Johnson of Princeton and Anya Johnson of Princeton; siblings, Lynnette Viney of Newport News, VA, Burl Johnson of Princeton, Aubrey Ashby of Princeton, Reginald Johnson of Indianapolis, Constance Long (Tony) of Hampton, Camika Dupree (Mike) of Hampton, Darius Bailey (Electra) of Newport News; numerous grandchildren; and his former wife Ella Jean Johnson of Oakland City.
He was preceded in death by his father, Wayne Thomas Johnson; sister, Patricia Sanford; grandparents, Earl and Christine Lyles, and Burl and Lotha Mae Johnson.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, February 9, 2024 at the New Life Church of the Nazarene, 712 N Embree St., Princeton, IN, with Pastor Donnie Truelock officiating. Burial will follow in the Sand Hill Cemetery near Lyles Station. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the service time Friday at the church. The Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton has been entrusted with the arrangements.
