Viola Leona Johnson , 88, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday January 30, 2024.
Born on March 5th 1935 (3/5/35) to Nobel and Alvina (Bump) Lambert on the family farm near Cowling Ill, Leona spent her entire life in the Grayville, Mt. Carmel, Princeton (IN) area. Leona was an early definition of a “working Mom”, having worked many jobs in her career while still caring for her children. She worked a number of years in the food service area for the North Gibson School Corporation before retiring to care for her ailing husband.
Her children will remember “mom” as our nurse, short order cook, baker of the world’s greatest cookies, teacher, seamstress , transportation specialist in her VW bug, pitcher, catcher, rebounder, coach, cheerleader and referee. She was a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her three grandchildren and two great grandchildren simply adored “Grandma Johnson” . She will be greatly missed.
Leona was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edwin E. “Wabash” Johnson; sister, Wilma Klienschmidt; brothers Eddie and Ralph Lambert; and son-in-law, Shane Lewis.
She is survived by her three children, Rick (Dee Ann) Johnson of Evansville, Teresa Lewis of Princeton, and David (Judy) Johnson of Princeton; grandchildren, Jill (Brandon) Buck, David ‘Andy’ Johnson, and Brittany (Allen) Dorris; great grandchildren, Valerie and Hazel Buck; and of course, her little dog Trixie.
A graveside service will be held 10:00 AM Friday, February 2, 2024 at Maple Hill Cemetery officiated by Pastor Donnie Truelock. To share a memory or leave an online condolence go to www.ColvinFuneralHome.com. Colvin Funeral Home is honored to serve the Johnson family.
The family would like to thank the nurses and caregivers on the fifth floor at Gateway Hospital and the staff at the Linda White Hospice care facility for their kind and gentle care.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Linda White Hospice House, 611 Harriet St. Evansville, IN.
