Virgil “Bud” Paul Turpin, 90, of Princeton, passed away Friday, December 10, 2021 at the Waters in Princeton. He was born December 16, 1930 in Gibson County to the late Bartlett J. Turpin and Marie (Hitch) Turpin and went to school at Mt. Olympus. Bud married the love of his life, Ruby Joan (Sherman) Turpin on January 8, 1949 and they were blessed with 70 years together before her passing in January 2018.
Bud was an avid bowler, bowling 2 perfect games, one being the senior tournament in Evansville. He made a lot of friends bowling all over the tri-state area. He was a member of Princeton Men’s Association Hall of Fame and Indiana State bowling Hall of Fame. He administered Tri-State Tour for several years and ran the 64 Garage and Wrecker Service for over 20 years. He was a Service/Parts Manager for City Motors, where he was awarded the bronze medallion and several other personal achievements through Ford. Bud served on the Fair Board for many years where he served as president twice. It was important to him to make arrangements for the residents at the nursing homes to attend the fair. Bud also served on the Sheriff Merit Board for many years, as a Civil Processor, where he was awarded Civil Process Server of the Year several times, and was instrumental in the 911 readdressing in Gibson County. At the age of 83, he drove the Nascar Experience which gave him a blast from his past racing stock cars in the early 1950’s at the Speed Drome and several other tracks in the area. Bud was a jokester with a big heart. He was a great father and his family will miss him beyond measure. He lived a legacy and his friends and family will cherish many memories.
Bud is survived by his children, Bob Turpin, Harlan Turpin, Judy Zimmerman, JoEllin Patterson (Clark), Jayne Wangler (Randy), Rusty Turpin (Vickie), Janice Utley (Mike), and Scot Turpin (LeAnn); 17 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews that he was very fond of.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and 2 grandchildren, David Zimmerman and Keela Lynch.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at Noon at Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton officiated by Pastor Kevin Wilson. Visitations will be held Tuesday from 4 until 8:00 PM and Wednesday from 10 until Noon all at the funeral home.
