Virginia Goddard, 94, of Somerville, passed away Thursday, December 24, 2020 at Amber Manor Care Center in Petersburg after suffering a fall in her home. She was born in Gibson County July 28, 1926. She met the love of her life, Ted Goddard in April 1942 and married on August 29, 1942.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Dytsel (Aldridge) Bruce; husband, Ted Goddard; daughter, Paulette Nichols; brothers, George L. Bruce, Hobart Bruce, and Archie Bruce; sisters, Katherine Ringler, Phyllis Lee, and Dessie Bruce; and granddaughter, Jennifer Taylor.
Virginia traveled the states with Ted as he served in the Army Airforce during World War II. She was a homemaker for Ted and their four children and later a babysitter for her grandchildren and nephew. Virginia and Ted created wood crafts together through the years. She painted several pictures with Artex Painting as gifts for her children while Ted made the picture frames. She enjoyed many years of camping with her family. Virginia was a member of McCullough Grove Baptist Church in Oakland City.
Virginia is survived by her daughter, Billie (Louis) Wheaton of Somerville; son, Russ (Penny) Goddard of Princeton; son, Charles (Donna) Goddard of Mansfield, Ohio; son-in-law, Bill (Deborah) Nichols of Paoli, sister, Doris Edrington of Oakland City; sister, Barbara (Don) Lindauer of Oakland City and sister, Shirley (John) Sweigert of Palm Bay, Florida. She is also survived by several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
A private family viewing will be held with a graveside service at Montgomery Cemetery in Oakland City with Pastor George L. Bruce, Jr. officiating.
