William Joseph “Bill” Woods, 91, of Oakland City, passed away Sunday June 16, 2024 at the Linda E. White Hospice House in Evansville. He was born May 15, 1933 to Agnes (Christian) Woods and William E. Woods.
They preceded him in death along with sisters, Mary Catherine Pflug and Norma Jean May.
Bill is survived by his wife of 71 years, Marianne (Tooley) Woods; daughters, Ellyn Horrall (Ed) of Patoka and Vicki Oxby of Spurgeon; two grandsons, Heath Oxby and Hunter Oxby (Jenn); three granddaughters, Heidi Stunkel (Jeremy), Elizabeth Stith (Brad) and Emily Hedges (Kolten); nine great grandchildren, Avarie and Carson Hartke, Rylan and Kason Oxby, Della Oxby, Will and Maggie Stith and Dallas and Masyn Hedges; one great great grandchild, Tennessee Kinley; brother, David Woods (Donna); sister-in-law, Nancy Nelson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bill retired as Tool Engineer Manager from Potter & Brumfield/Siemens Corporation, Princeton, Indiana where he worked for 31 years. Bill was a member of the Oakland City First General Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the 328th Army Helicopter Company. He was a member of the VFW Post of Petersburg and a 50-year lifetime member of the American Legion Post 256 in Oakland City.
Bill was a member of the Moose Lodge 1617 in Petersburg, Eagles Aerie 4288 of Oakland City, charter & life member of Oakland City Lions Club, a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Elks #634 in Princeton and is a Kentucky Colonel. He is a member and past president of the Oakland City Golf Club. He served as a Councilman at Large on the Oakland City Council for eight years.
Bill was a past chairman of the Evansville Charter of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. He served on the International Board of Directors for the Society of Plastic Engineers (Thermoset Division) for six years.
Bill loved playing golf and spending time with his family. He and Marianne enjoyed spending their winters in Texas and Florida for many years.
A funeral service will be held at 10 am CDT on Thursday, June 20, 2024 at Corn-Colvin Funeral Home in Oakland City. Burial will follow at Montgomery Cemetery in Oakland City with Military Rites provided by Retired Military Veterans. Visitation will be on Wednesday evening, June 19th, from 4 until 8 pm CDT at the funeral home.
