Winifred Brown

Winifred “Wini” L. Brown, 81, of Oakland City, IN was called home Friday, August 21, 2026. He was born May 23, 1945 in Evansville, IN to Fred Brown and Aleen (O’Neal) Brown. Wini graduated from Oakland City High School in 1963. He retired as a conductor from Southern Railroad after 30+ years of service. After retirement he worked for E.I. Sports and Apparel selling sporting goods for many years. Wini was a former Deacon at First General Baptist Church. He enjoyed watching basketball and baseball, especially the St. Louis Cardinals. Wini loved spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren’s events. He was fond of his Wednesday Night “Choir meeting group”. Wini will be remembered as a loving dad and pawpaw.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Michele Parrish; half-siblings, Nixie Deason and Clarence Brown; and special friend, Elizabeth Brewster.

Wini is survived by his son, Shane (Lisa-Marie) Brown; son-in-law, Sean Parrish; grandchildren, Jasper Brown, Kingston Brown, and Kinslee Parrish; cousins, Connie Fleshman, Jo Miley, Brenda Willis, Karen Shigley, Jeff Stilwell, Dana Buck, and Dirk Buck; and special friends who were like family, Mike and Julie Brewster, Banks Brewster, Allison Brewster Lee, and Hannah Brewster Powers.

A funeral service will be held 10 AM CST Tuesday, August 25, 2026 at Corn-Colvin Funeral Home in Oakland City with Pastor Darrin Nossett officiating. Burial at Somerville Cemetery to follow with the following to serve as pallbearers: Banks Brewster, Mike Brewster, Jasper Brown, Tom Alvey, Gary Minnis, Stan Young, Dwayne Austin, Jed Beadles, and Brian Schoonover. Visitation will be held 5 PM to 7 PM Monday, August 24, 2026 at the funeral home.
