Condolences, thoughts, and prayers!
For Tom and to his entire family!

It has been years since I saw Tom yet since hearing the news of his passing it has left me with a heavy heart, and thinking of What a good friend he was and how I will regret letting life, time, and distance separate me from a friend I will miss!

I am sorry to hear of Tom's passing. He was a classmate of mine in elementary school. I moved away at beginning of our 5th grade year. I remember him as a caring, friendly boy, and have fond memories of him. So sorry for your loss.

What a wonderful person Tom Hume was, and what an inspiration he was, and still is, to everyone he touched. I know he loved God, his wife, his children, his little grandson, and his family. He more than once described the way his grandson would light up when he would hear Tom in the room and I saw Tom light up himself just sharing that experience. To his wife and family, please accept my sincere condolences for your loss in this difficult time.

I shared this on Facebook but wanted to add it here also.

I met Tom at Integrity Martial Arts, where we were both taking our sons to learn karate. We became instant friends when we learned of one another’s intimate love for Christ. Tom made the otherwise mundane trip to karate practice a joy. I couldn’t wait to visit with my buddy Tom each week. We would sometimes even stay a little late, talking after the practice had ended while our boys tugged at our sleeves to leave. We talked and laughed about life, our jobs, our kids, Tom’s latest paddle boarding adventure and always about Jesus.
After Tom received his diagnosis I was shocked, lost for words, but Tom wasn’t…. I know there had to be hard moments, grief and possibly despair but that is something this man never displayed to me. I have never witnessed a more courageous champion for Christ in the face of cancer and death. Instead of stumbling, questioning or backing away Tom only stood taller for Christ and literally said “not my will, but yours, be done”. He told me once that of course he wanted to remain here for his wife, his children and grandchild (he loved them so desperately) but he added with a flippant smile, “if I die, I know that I get to be with Him… in glory.
I stood up one time in my church and testified about Tom and his incredible, inspiring witness for the Lord. He was a man who exhibited strength and beautiful grace in a time that I believe most would not be able. I will miss our talks and his contagious, beaming smile. My life has been enriched and is truly better for having known Tom Hume. The apostle Paul said, “To live is Christ and to die is gain” (Phil 1: 21) Tom exemplified this scripture.
Although we did not know one another long, our friendship was powerful and I will miss him greatly...until that day.
His brother in Christ,
Todd Williams
